Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Review

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox)

A review by Sox

Finally a RPG worth mentioning and this game is one of the best Star Wars games that I have played in a long time. Now some of you out there are getting ready to click another link because you heard the letters dreaded by some (RPG), and you also might be turn away by the Star Wars title saying “I’m no Star Wars nerd!” Well let me tell you that you don’t have to be a Star Wars fan or a RPG lover to like this game.

The story line takes you through the massive Star Wars universe with just as many little quirks and plot twists as one would expect, but this time they’ve thrown in something very innovative: open-ended plot development. As you progress through the game you make the choices whether you should follow the path of the light side of succumb to the dark side, and the decisions that you make will affect the outcome of the game. The story starts you out as just a regular Republic solider on a ship that is suddenly under attack by the Sith putting you and your new found comrade in a struggle to escape in one piece. Then your journey takes you to Taris where your adventure will begin.

Graphics: The graphics in this game aren’t tremendously good, although the cut scenes do look awesome, but they are still pretty good granted there are some times when the frame rate drops a little but you’ll be too immersed in the story line to even notice. The characters are rendered fairly well and the lightsabers looks great.

Sound: The sound in this game is great. All the voice acting is executed extremely well and that right ladies and gents I said voice acting which means no more reading. The general ambiance of the game is pretty vibrant and springy and I mean come on who doesn’t like the sound of a lightsaber slicing through the air.

Controls: The controls of this game are fairly simple to learn and use and the combat system in my eyes was excellent others will tell you different. I thought that the combat system was nicely done and very simple to use.

Gameplay: This game has a great story line and a very high level of emersion. The game itself provides about 40 hours of gameplay with a great replay value. The controls are smooth and the easy to use. The customization of weapons and armor add depth to the gameplay and the varying characters that you meet along the way will keep you entertained and in some instances inspired.

Learning Curve: The learning curve of the game is really simple and in the beginning you can just use the auto level up feature to distribute your experience points and then later you can go more in detail and distribute them yourself.

Over all I think this is one of the better RPGs out there and I would definitely recommend it to any gamer. I give it a 9.4 out of 10. This is Sox signing out and until next time friends.
